Scream Blue Murmur is best described as a loose organism - a blend of music, chant, poetry and performance poetry - delivered with a unique performance style emerging from pubs and clubs in Northern Ireland and then honed through touring world-wide. Performing @23mainstreet on August 6th.
Scream Blue Murmur formed in 2006. They have toured Australasia, the USA, Asia and Ireland, performing over 300 times as a group. The five writers, though all resident in N.Ireland for many years, originate from Belfast, Derry, London, New York and somewhere in the wilds of Scotland. They are accompanied by Brian Faloon, original drummer with Northern Ireland's internationally renowned punk band “Stiff Little Fingers”.
While Scream Blue Murmur will be performing a combination of materials during their tour their new show which much of the material comes from is inspired by the events of the 1930s.
"Something's gone wrong in the Dreamhouse" is a sumptuous blend of music, chant, spoken word delivered with the groups unique performance style. See the Stockmarket Crash, the Dustbowl and the rise of Fascism delivered with the wild irreverence that won the encore award at Minnesota Fringe last year.
The ripples of all these events are reflected in our world today and while Scream Blue Murmur recognise that the subject matter could be heavy going their show is delivered with a slice of Irish charm and humor and a side order of bawdy, catchy sing-a-long tunes, and a big chunk of audience participation.
